The truffles come from Italy; my family finds it and sends it to me. Besides, you need a lot of people to go around for truffles. The truffles are flown overnight in temperate-controlled coolers (to keep its freshness) from Italy to Los Angeles. And from the airport, they go straight into the car. "We have three shipments a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I go to pick up the stuff at the airport and from there we start delivering to the restaurants right away," said Michael. Giovanni D'Egidio, a long-time friend, who also works with the brothers said, "we like to make sure the product is always fresh ... From the moment we receive the truffle at the airport, it's a race against time, because it shrinks overnight." According to Clay Shirky the answer is yes. "Like driving, journalism is not a profession -- no degree or certification is required to practice it, and training often comes after hiring [...]" Although some people disagree with Shirky's opinion, thanks to the web, it's impossible to deny that anyone can publish journalistic material anytime. The digital revolution has given a voice to the masses, removing the exclusivity that once limited who or what type of person could express their opinion in a public forum. It has allowed the general public the ability to question authority or suggest varying points of view, without the approval of an editor or publishing entity. The content of a story and the quality of the writing are what determine whether their point or not its considered journalism. Not every video posted on YouTube is journalism, nor is every tweet a news story. Publishing raw data is different than publishing accurate information with context, analysis and judgment. But no matter the content, today, the Internet definitely allows writers to reach larger audiences more efficiently and with much less expense.

Will it replace traditional journalism? Will newspapers become extinct? Will this model be able to support itself economically? What's going to happen next? Times have changed and newly emerging media forms allow the public to question the information provided. 'Letters to the editor' are a thing of the past while twitter, blogs and facebook dominate the means of communication and self expression. More important to investigate is what role do global publications play in this communication revolution? An assessment of the similarities and differences among The New York Times, The Guardian, and Globo.com's approach to delivering the news begins to shed light on this complex question.

Globo.com is the online domain of TV Globo, the largest Brazilian Media Network and fourth largest in the World. TV Globo reaches over 120 million people daily while their Internet portal attracts a mere two million visitors annually. Although the Network is a major player in the media industry, it is not considered highly credible. The majority of Brazilians perceive Globo.com's news coverage as having a sensationalist slant. While the site's coverage of national and international breaking news is extensive, its hard news content is often condensed and superficial. More focus is devoted to entertainment-focused fluff pieces intended to promote the network's Soap Operas.

This approach blurs the line between an accounting of the facts and Pilkington's personal feelings toward them.

Of the three Dugard articles reviewed, the Times' piece was the most comprehensive, well-written and objective accounting of the events. Three journalists collaborated to write it, allowing additional perspectives to be included, whereas in The Guardian and on Globo.com, an individual correspondent was documenting their perception alone. The Times article included far more sources than the others, with interviews of law enforcement officials, neighbors, and one of the defendant's clients in addition to the Dugard family.

The scent of tar inhaled upon entry to the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits on Wilshire Boulevard, makes it impossible to deny its existence. "The Tar Pits were here first, and then they built the city", explains Shelley Cox, the museum's laboratory supervisor. It's not just the exhibition of prehistoric specimens recovered from the site nor the behind the scenes access to the museums operations made possible by the "Fish Bowl Lab", which attracts visitors to the museum. Rather visitors are drawn to watch history unravel before their eyes as the Tar Pits continue to be excavated. "The deposits here are so rich that scientists continue to excavate year around", says Cox. In fact, the perimeter of the building creates the feeling that one has just walked onto the set of an Indiana Jones movie, with excavation teams recovering bones from the asphalt pools in real time.

This activeness is apparent from the oil bubbling at the Tar Pits caused by the combination of methane gas and bacteria. "Asphalt has seeped up from the ground in this area thousands of years ago and stuck animals that died, but have been preserved in bones", explains the scientist. Over two million fossils, including the entire skeleton of a large mammal named Zed, sixteen hundred wolves' skulls and a partial female human skeleton, have been recovered from the site.

The Museum's collection, by having such breadth, in sheer quantity as well as the diversity of specimen condition, including fossils of diseased and injured animals, adds another dimension to the field of study. Cox continued to explain, "because of the amount of material we have, we became point of reference for other museums and scientists who come to us in search of more information". As the archeological work is ongoing, both scientist and members of the general public alike benefit from this important resource.
