With the Fires Now Behind Them, Yorba Linda Residents Now Brace for Mudslides

Box Canyon Burn AreaNow that the Freeway Complex Fires have been fully contained, Yorba Linda residents are scrambling to prepare their homes for another danger:  mud.  With the National Weather service predicting rain and thunderstorms starting late Tuesday, authorities advise that the possibility of mudslides immediately threatens the Orange County hillsides.  City of Yorba Linda officials have issued a voluntary evacuation for the Box Canyon, Brush Canyon and North Fairmont/San Antonio areas beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, November 25.

The Federal Shield Law Just Dares You to Be a Journalist Now

j0401787.jpgThe proposed federal shield law is out to protect those who need to keep a secret for a good reason.  Lawyers have attorney-client privilege.  Medical providers have doctor-patient privileges.  Why not journalists?  Journalists have been relegated to the special time-out corner for now.  The federal shield law that didn't make it through Congress last summer could have insulated the First Amendment from government intrusion, but it also would have muddied the waters a little more.

Youth Barrel into the Democratic Process

It's not just another historic election.  It's an election where even the kids who were even a little too young to vote (sometimes even too young know their ABCs) participated in the democratic process. 

On Election Day, I visited two precincts and a downtown Long Beach sports bar to check out the turnout.  What surprised me was the amount of youthful energy injected into the campaign.
