A 28-year veteran of the LAPD and number two in the department for the last seven years, First Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell was considered a front-runner for filling William Bratton's post when talks of the former chief's resignation first surfaced. 

McDonnell was voted one of the final three contenders for police chief nominated by the Police Commission in late October. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa however, recently announced Deputy Chief Charlie Beck as chief-designate.  

Beck's nomination marked the second consecutive time McDonnell has lost the seat for police chief.  Despite having the experience that could land him a position as chief anywhere in the country, McDonnell has publicly expressed his desire to continue his work with the LAPD -- serving a city he has come to know and love.

 

Nearly one year after the Sayre Fire in Sylmar destroyed an entire mobile park community, residents of Oakridge are rebuilding. Mitch Klapow, an Oakridge resident for nearly ten years is finally moving into his newly built mobile home on Nov. 20. But Klapow is one of the very few who are not afraid of another fire.  With only 80 homes standing in a park that can hold 600, Oakridge is facing a financial crisis.  Klapow is determined to return home, hoping other residents will follow his lead.

Following New York's own homage to avant-garde designs at Bryant Park, the London event is scantily covered in the American news circuit. Die-hard fashionistas however, managed to follow every strut on the catwalk via Twitter, and broke this spring's biggest European trend: the hungry model.
