On Thursday family, friends and supporters gathered in Santa Monica, Calif. for a candlelight vigil to support journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee on the eve of their trial in Pyongyang, North Korea, for committing "hostile acts" against the country. The trial was expected to be short and it was, ending Monday with the two journalists, ages 32 and 36, sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. Learn more about North Korea's labor camp system here.

Having attended the Sacramento, CA, Rally for Laura & Euna July 9, 2009, I haven't heard an update. Is there hope of their coming home? Is the American government assisting in this effort? What more can citizens, such as I, do? Presently, I pray and ask their guardian angels to keep them safe.
Sincerely,

For some reason, this story has really grabbed my attention. I am so concerned about their safety and the outcome of the trial and the outcome in general, yet, there is nothing I can do. And seemingly, nothing much anyone can do. I feel powerless, but I wish I could do something. I can only imagine how the family feels. I hope for the greater justice in this case, and that the two return soon to the U.S. to their families.

Great, moving story! This is so important for you to cover! Thanks.
