The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power urged customers Monday to cut power use because the La Cañada Flintridge fire threatens 500 kilovolt transmission lines northeast of the Acton area.

The transmission lines are critical to maintaining the power supply especially as high temperatures increase energy demand throughout the day, the department said in a statement.

To make up for the potential loss of power transmission, the department activated all in-basin power plants to generate energy.
