The Governator Shows a Little Muscle
Governor Schwarzenegger appears to be winning a political stand-off with state legislators in Sacramento.
Capitol Weekly wrote yesterday about the gauntlet the Governator put before repubs and dems, threatening to
veto more than 70 bills on his desk that did not have to do with his top priorities: the state's water crisis, prisons, and renewable energy.
The Sacramento Bee
reports today that Schwarzenegger made good on his promise late Tuesday. After the Assembly dared him to show his cards by leaving the governor with a bill that would have created a "
Welcome Home Vietnam Veterens Day," Schwarzenegger said no thanks with a
big fat veto.
Villaraigosa Draws His Own Line In The Sand
L.A. Daily News' Rick Orlov writes that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will fight to continue
expanding the city's police force to 10,000 officers, a goal he made upon entering city hall.
Apparently the mayor's line in the sand is costing the city $1 million every day. That's one expensive campaign promise to keep.
Who's The New Sheriff In Town?
Villaraigosa also named a
new Gang Czar for the city yesterday, after he
promoted the former czar, Jeff Carr, to become his chief of staff.

Slow Down Roski
The Times blog, L.A. Now reports the L.A. County Board of Supervisors tried yesterday to pull on the reins of developer Ed Roski's Majestic Realty Co., which wants to
build a new $800 million Los Angeles football stadium in L.A. County.
Times reporters Garrett Therolf and Patrick McGreevy wrote on the blog that Roski has lobbied top dogs in the state legislature to
ease environmental restrictions for building the stadium. But Supervisor Gloria Molina apparently wants Roski to play by the same rules everyone else does and plans to let Sacramento know.
